Vendor Licenses

The purpose of an Ohio Vendor’s License

A vendor’s license authorizes a business to make taxable sales and collect sales tax.  It does not give a company or a person an exemption from paying sales tax.

Obtaining a vendor’s license solely to avoid paying sales tax is a fraudulent act and a violation of Ohio law.

In addition, a vendor’s license helps the consumer understand more about the business with which they are dealing.  Every business must post its vendor’s license in clear sight of the public, so that the owner or company name, the business or trade name, the business address, business telephone number, and the primary kind of business being operated can easily be seen.

Note: If your sales will occur in one storefront in Wood County you may purchase your license at the Auditor’s office. https://tax.ohio.gov/static/webview/view1/UIExtension/1/pdf-view.html?filename=forms/sales_and_use/Applications2019/ST_ST1_FI.pdf or online at  https://gateway.ohio.gov/  If you are making sales in multiple locations or Ohio counties, you are required to purchase a Transient Vendors License, which must be purchased ONLINE. This license will remain in effect until your business is dissolved, there is a change in ownership, or the Tax Commissioner revokes the license. That fee is $50.00 with no annual renewal fee. License is purchased from the Ohio Department of Taxation in Columbus
